On the 30th of December 2007, Petrus 3Y0E and Rhynhardt ZS6DXB had a conversation via satellite phone. Petrus was happy to confirm that the radio and antenna is working. He made a couple of contacts on the 30th of December with ZS and PY stations. He also reported that he heard a lot of contest activity on Saturday the 29th of December from South America.
Rhynhardt ZS6DXB and Petrus 3Y0E will be trying a new strategy to get 3Y0E into pileups. 3Y0E will until further notice call CQ between 16:00 and 17:30 Zoeloe on 14.200 MHz only. 3Y0E will work simplex until Petrus get more acquainted with the radio equipment. Please note that no pre-arranged skeds “contacts” can be arranged with 3Y0E.
Petrus has still got some e-mail problems and we are hoping to resolve them speedily. As soon as they are resolved we will publish the 3Y0E logbook on the website, http://3y0e.com/
There has been a number of false cluster reports over the last couple of days and we urge anybody that hears Petrus 3Y0E call CQ to record him and forward the recording to zs6dxb@kats.za.net

Gentlemen,
I am glad to be able to say I worked Petrus this afternoon at 15:33UTC in my logbook. I heard him calling on 14200 and even though I heard some European stations off the back of my beam, I responded to him. (he was peaking S2 here, at the time, so rather thin) Anyway, having called Petrus for a second time, he responded and gave me the obligatory 5/9, I could confirm his name and after my next over he faded, thus it was a pretty short one and can only hope that over the next few weeks, openings will get longer & stronger and many more of our fellow hams will be able to get 3Y0E down in their log.
Good DX to all and all the best for 2008, may it be a great year for all.
